ClamTK for 12.04

Asked by Deacon John

It seems that the latest versions of ClamTK will only work with Ubuntu 13.04 (or later probably). Will there ever be a version that will work with earier version of Ubuntu? Some of us are stuck using older hardware that will not allow an Ubuntu upgrade.

13.04 is not supported by the community or Canonical in any way.

If you have older hardware then Lubuntu and Xubuntu are great.

Lubuntu 14.04 is also LTS and supported til April 2019. I suggest you install that.

Hi,

The main reason it is not supported on older Ubuntus is due to 12.04's old version of libgtk2-perl. It would likely work if we could get that upgraded.

In fact, the 5.xx series was supposed to use libgtk3-perl, but most distros do not have a recent enough version to support that.

Thanks,
Dave M

Could use it in CLI, eg:

clamscan -r --bell -i /

Rings a bell if a virus is found and scan the entire OS.

Sorry, one more note: I reinstalled Ubuntu 12.04 in a VM and will give it another go to make the 5.xx series work with it. Maybe it's the lack of sleep talking, but I think it might be doable.

Thanks,
Dave M

Ok, I have a test build of ClamTk 5.04, built on Ubuntu 12.04. If anyone would like to test, please let me know. It will be its own package for now (e.g., clamtk-5.04-legacy.tar.gz).

I'll build and release a deb once verified it works.

Thanks,
Dave M

Thanks. I would like to test it. Hopefully I could give some feedback if it
doesn't.

Ok, works for John and me. A version built and tested on 12.04 is now on the front page:

http://code.google.com/p/clamtk/

For the lazy:

https://bitbucket.org/dave_theunsub/clamtk-legacy/downloads/clamtk_5.04-1.legacy_all.deb

I'm not great at building debs, but it (like the normal ClamTk) is lintian clean. If anyone wants to take over building those, have at it.

I think we can close this now. It's guaranteed to work.*

Thanks,
Dave M
