simple registry error fix on 64 bit

can you please give me link for chntpw which works perfectly for Windows 7 64 bit , i tired both the version of chntpw 0.99.5 and 0.99.6 , both gives me this error

"openHive(software): File does not seem to be a registry hive!
Simple registry editor. ? for help.
get_abs_path: Not a 'nk' node! "

What commands are you running? What is the output of :

lsb_release -a; uname -a; apt-cache policy chntpw

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install chntpw

Wil lupgrade it. Are you looking to reset your Windows password?

Update does not work either, i am trying to reset windows 7 64 bit password

The password is nothing to do with the registry, it is held in the SAM.

Did you try this (from step 3):
http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntucat/resetwindowspassword/
