getting an error on trying install programs ( was trying zoneminder in karmic) 'subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 255'

was trying to install wine and playonlinux and was repeatedly geting errors with ttf-mscorefonts. so i uninstalled ttf-mscorefonts installer and could go thro the installations. now i m trying to install zoneminder for surviellance cameras and am getting the following error 'subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 255' any idea what that means and how to circumvent?

This seems to be a problem with dpkg and installing from deb's as far as I can tell. I would recommend installing from apt or synaptic or use the software center rather than installing via debs. In order to troubleshoot this further it may well be required to post the entire output of the process you ran to incur this error.
