Unable to add packages using Synaptic Manager at any offline computer

Asked by Brijesh

Dear all,

We want to install and upgrade off line computers. When we tried to add archive folder packages of ONLINE computer using Synaptic Manager at OFF LINE computer, it did not works.

Yes, if we connect this to Inet for one time and reloads, then it adds packages of any folder. But we want this facility for off line computers.

Thanks.

There is a way of using any online computer (even a Windows one, i've heard) to build up a dvd/cd/usb stick that can then be used to update off-line machines. I think this technique can also be used if you're network administrator for a large group of machines and want to download once and then update everyone else over the network.

I'm not at all certain how to do this although the question has been asked a few times. It's worth hunting around the "Solved" answers forum.

Good luck and happy hunting :)

Thanks again Tom.

Actually we have got success to have installed offline computer with Ubuntu Jaunty + audio/video facility, openoffice pack, mplayer, Kubuntu Desktop, audacity, educational suite and WINE using APTonCD or using Synaptic Manager (if reloaded once only). Think many more will work. If Synaptic Manager could read packages from a folder (x archive of ONLINE computer) without connected to Inet, this may be a good way to float LINUX worldwide.
