sudo apt-get install -f not working

i have recently installed ubuntu on kubuntu 8.4 , and removed all kde applications using sudo apt-get remove kubuntu-desktop,
but the add/remove programme in ubuntu does not eorks

it is saying ur aoftware management system fails ,

first try to resynchronize your packages index using apt-get , apt-get update then run apt-get install -f , please paste the error here if you still facing a problem.
