RTL8187SE Wireless LAN Controller [10ec:8199] (rev 22) not working in Ubuntu

Asked by WilEEdEE

Wifi not working on Eee PC after updates

First of all, I'll have to issue a completely clueless newbie alert so you'll have to g-o s-l-o-w and assume nothing!!!

I installed 8.10 on my Eee701SD and everything worked great even on restart. After a few updates (only a few updates were found, downloaded and installed in the first instance) the Wifi stopped working.

I used the solution posted here:

http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-1019813.html

and it worked!! Then more updates ran the Wifi stopped working and I tried the same thing - but nothing happened. It still won't work.

Running lspci in terminal gives this result:

Hi,

Please first connect your network card to the wireless router using a LAN cable.

Then please follow this procedure:

Step 1: Open Terminal from "Applications->Accessories->
Terminal"

Step 2: Run the following commands (copy-paste each line below to the Terminal then hit <enter> after each line)

sudo iwlist scanning
nm-tool
ifconfig
sudo lshw -C network
lspci -nn
lsusb
uname -a
dmesg | grep ound
dmesg | grep illswitch

Step 3: Post results (cut/paste terminal output from each command) here

Regards,

Mark

Hi,

Open a Terminal and then enter the following commands to install the rtl8187se driver package:

wget http://boskastrona.ovh.org/download/linux-rtl8187se-modules-1023.2@2.6.27.11.14.deb
sudo dpkg -i linux-rtl8187se-modules-1023.2@2.6.27.11.14.deb

After installing, reboot pc and retest wireless.

Be careful when choosing the right module version: The Linux kernel version and Realtek driver version have to be the same.

Please look at

http://boskastrona.ovh.org/index_en.html

for more info about the newest Realtek drivers.

Hope this is clear,

Regards,

Mark
