Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs .

Installing programs as SuperUser is not a great plan unless you know and trust the source. For the package you mention the best sources are either through any of the package managers such as Synaptic or Go directly to the Adobe site

http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

For this particular package their website does actually give the best one to download. About halfway down the page is a little drop-drop with Ubuntu at the end. It's better to use "sudo" or "gksu" at the beginning of the command rather than go in as "su" because either of those will only need your normal user password, not your SuperUser/Root one. If you're having trouble with your SuperUser password then maybe this will help
http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/resetpassword

For every other package i would normally say - go up to the top taskbar and click on

System - Administration - Synaptic Package Manager is near the end

It will ask for your normal user password, not your SuperUser/Root one. Use either search tool to find the package and right-click on it to install - then just click on the "Apply" button. For Adobe FlashPlayer it really is fairly crucial to have the very latest one straight from their site tho.

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)

If you are still having trouble with this then please post it as a new question. Only the most recent questions tend to get looked at so posting/re-posting a question just before america arrives online after work/school gives the best chance of getting a good few answers - such is the nature of the internet.

If the problem has been resolved then please follow the link to the forum thread and mark it as Solved but please give us a clue how you did manage to solve it and also use the button under where you type stuff in rather than giving me karma credit points for just sending this note to you.

Apologies, good luck and many regards from
Tom :)
