i cannot update from 11.10 to 12.04....server or connection issue...

i just cannot update my current ubuntu 11.10 oneiric to the lastest version 12.04?

can someone help?

I suggest you grab the Precise ISO and boot to that. You should be offered to upgrade.

Obviously be sure your backups are up to date before you start with this.

Personally I would wipe Oneirc off and do clean installation of Trusty. Trusty is the latest LTS release and is supported til April 2019. You can restore your user data from your backups.

The root cause is that you are too late.

Support for Ubuntu 11.10 oneiric ocelot has ended two years ago, see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

Even if there are possibilities to upgrade from a no more supported release to a supported one (in your case from 11.10 to 12.04), the better solution most probably is to copy your private file to a backup medium, do a clean new installation of the current Ubuntu 14.04 release, and then to restore your private files from the backup.
