It looks like you copied and pasted those lines into your sources, and you forgot to replace "[distro]" with "precise"

Fix your sources, and that will go away.

There is an error in the configuration file that instructs the package management system where to loog for new and updated packages.

Open a termianl (e.g. by simultaneously pressing ctrl-alt-t)
usse the command

gksudo gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

This will ask for your password and open an editor with your sources.list file loaded.

Scroll down to the very end and delete the last two lines with the contents

deb http://archive.canonical.com/ [distro] partner
deb-src http://archive.canonical.com/ [distro] partner

These two lines are nonsense.
Then save the file and close the editor.

Finally execute these two commands

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

and copy/paste all output into this question document as done before.

Please tell me one more thing ,how can I upgrade my ubuntu version 12.04 lts to updated one.

Revision history for this message

There are two update paths in Ubuntu:

1. The LTS (Long Term Support) path: The April version in even years is delivered with long term support, aiming towards stability. Ubuntu 12.04 is such LTS release, and will be supported with error corrections until April 2017. Ubuntu offers the possibility to upgrade from one LTS release to the next (was 8.04 -> 10.04 -> 12.04).

2. The "normal release" path: All releases between the LTS release are supported only for a short time (was 18 months, but has been reduced to 9 months for Ubuntu 13.04 and later). If you go that way, you are forced to perform a release upgrade twice a year to stay on supported Ubuntu versions. The "normal releases" deliver the latest development features, sometimes even quite "bleeding edge". On that path you have to upgrade to each new release, skipping one release and upgrading to the next but one release is not possible (or at least not supported). In your case you would have to upgrade from 12.04 to 12.10 (supported until April 2014), and then to 13.04 (supported until January 2014), and you will have to upgrade then to 13.10 (from October 2013 until July 2014).

You have to make your decision which way you want to go:
Do you prefer a stable release, that you can leave untouched for a longer period, or do you want to get the most up-to-date features, with the need for a full release-upgrade every 6 months? Does your hardware fulfill the minimum requirements for the new releases?

To change your preference you have to make the approriate selection in update-manager - settings - updates - Notify me...

You will need to upgrade to Quantal first if you want to get to Raring, you need to upgrade to the next release, or the next LTS release. If you need this system to work I suggest you stick with Precise as it is supported til April 2017. When 14.04 is released, you can upgrade to it in one jump.

Can you help with this problem?
