First I've never heard of Obuntu 12.07. Do you mean "Ubuntu 12.04" or "Ubuntu 12.10"?

Open a terminal (CTRL+ALT+T) and give us the output of the following commands please

lsb_release -a; uname -a; sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get -y upgrade
----------------------------------------------------------------

Enter your password when requested. There is no feedback when you enter it but it is being accepted: just type and press enter.

There may be a lot of output but we are used to that here; select it all and copy and paste it back here.

This won't solve the problem but should give us the information we need to know what to do next.
