Not able to update the Ubuntu server 10.04

I have installed ubuntu server 10.04, need to setup gui and minimal desktop adn lamp server. While running apt-get install update, i am getting the following error.

Err http://us.archive.ubuntu.com lucid Release.gpg Connection failed.

But i am able to download files like Sources.gz etc using wget.
