out of disk space when installing new program

running linux from usb stick. get out of disk space error when installing new program in spite of 7.1 gig available

the problem with running off a usb stick is that space is limited. if i remember correctly, the maximum space available when you enable persistence is like 2 or 4 gig, although your stick is capable of holding way more.

You can free up a considerable amount of space by installing localepurge to remove unused languages, and also by cleaning your apt cache.

   df -h
