How to install software in other partition (not the one in which ubuntu is installed)?

The partition in which my Ubuntu is installed doesn't have much space. I want to install my softwares in other partitions. Is it possible to configure synaptic to do it easily? please reply with any possible options that i can do. Thanks in advance for your help!

Can you give the output of:

lsb_release -a; uname -a; echo; dpkg -l | grep linux-image; sudo apt-get clean; echo; df -h

I may be able to free you up a lot of space

Check amount of disk used in /var folder.
