Unable to download VLC

Asked by wordsmyth2

Having just update Ubuntu 10.10/64 bit, I find I'm unable to download VLC player. I get the following message:

Failed to fetch http://mirror.optus.net/ubuntu/pool/universe/libc/libcdio/libiso9660-7_0.81-4_amd64.deb 404 Not Found [IP: 211.29.132.93 80]

Strangely, I also have Mint 10/64 bit on a dual boot system, and VLC downloaded and installed perfectly there...

There's something wrong with that mirror. You can gauge the quality of third-party mirrors here: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archivemirrors

The Optus mirror is still listed but it has the wrong file and may be quite out of date, perhaps warranting removal. I would suggest using another mirror near you.

Thanks for the tip, Ian: I used another mirror and it worked like a dream!
