I just realized that the information you've provided indicates you're using Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex. That hasn't been supported since April 2010!

So while the above instructions could imaginably fix your problem, they probably won't, and even if they do, you should upgrade to Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Lucid Lynx or Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat.

My computer has full internet connection.

I want to reiterate that, like I said in my second post, Ubuntu 8.10 is no longer supported. This means that there are no longer updates, and the update servers for that version aren't running anymore. You'll have to upgrade to a later version of Ubuntu.

If you're accessing that computer remotely via SSH, then you should be able to use "ssh -X" to run graphical programs on that computer (the server), and have their windows and other GUI elements display on your computer (the client). If you want help with that, please let me know.

If you don't wish to use GUI programs, or are ultimately unable to do so, then you could manually edit /etc/apt/sources.list. I recommend backing it up first (e.g. "sudo cp /etc/apt/sources.list /etc/apt/sources.list.old").

You can try it and see what happens...but even if that works, you really should upgrade to a supported release.
