Installer crashed/apt configuration problem

Asked by Karolina Maleckaite

I tried to install Ubuntu booting from CD. But it has "an attempt to configure apt to install additional packages from the CD failed" error. By the way, nor Ubuntu neither Windows now starts normally (even with F8). So now I'm using Ubuntu "try" version.

What should I do?

I'm attaching var/log/syslog and var/log/partman.

Thankfully,
Karolina

P.S. Can I go to my HDD while I'm using "try" version?

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. Karolina,

i suggest some tips:

.1.
download and try a Long-Time-Support version first (it costs you one extra CD)
e.g. xUbuntu-08.04.LTS or xUbuntu-10.04.LTS

Burn this file "AS ISO-image" on a CD-rom

.2.
while booting from this CD-rom, there comes a menu giving you the opportunity to "Check the CD for defects"
please try this one first, if either the CD or the CD-drive is (partly) defective nothing wil work

.3.
while booting you can also choose for the option to "Check memory"
try this one too, so you know that the internal memory of the PC is OK

.4.
you could also tests these things in the PC of someone else; if you do not install anything, his PC stays the same.

.5.
after these tests all end <OK>,
you can start installation of the Ubuntu-version you prefer.

Can you help with this problem?
