Unable to install softwares

HI all,
        I'm new to ubuntu and in need of help. I have installed ubuntu recently and have set the necessary proxy settings as given by the admin in our institute. Also we have to install softwares from their repositery by giving the following lines in terminal.
sudo mv /etc/apt/sources.list /etc/apt/sources.list.original

and
sudo wget --no-proxy http://csea.iitg.ernet.in/services/ubuntu/sources.list.d/sources-lucid-csea.list --output-document=/etc/apt/sources.list

but im still unable to download them.
Please help.

-Did you check if the content of the /etc/apt/sources.list file is correct? That's where the address of your update server is set. It's a text file, just open it and check

-if you type "sudo apt-get update" in a terminal, what is the output?

But it's the same for all my friends whose synaptic package is working.Also there are 2 files in /etc/apt/source.list
one says source.list which was there when i installed ubuntu and other is source.list.original which is a text file. I tried deleting the source.list and also tried renaming it but am unable to do so.

I think you must enter proxy settings in Synaptic also. Did you enter them?

It used to come previuosly also.But it's the same for all my friends whose synaptic package is working.

the problem here is the subdomain "csea" doesn't exist, that's why you can't download the new apt source list... click here to view the subdomains available: http://paste.ubuntu.com/524793/

i suggest contacting your IT administrator who's responsible for running the mirror repo and report this problem.
