Open a Terminal from the menu Applications → Accessories → Terminal and type:

Suggestion: right click with mouse on the terminal title caption and select the item "Always on Top" doing this you will force the terminal window to stay on top of the other windows and you will find very easy to copy single row from this web page into the terminal...

(if the system ask you a password give your user password, you will not see nothing when you type it, then press enter)

sudo apt-get -f install
sudo apt-get --fix-missing install
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Hope this helps

I appreciate your response and help but I am still getting the same error whenever I try to install or remove a program. Any other suggestions you can think of would be appreciated. Also, do you know what is causing this problem?

You can try to clean your apt cache with:
$ sudo apt-get clean

It looks like the problem is the package 'amavisd-new-postfix'

type this in temrinal (requires superuser permissions)

     sudo apt-get --purge remove amavisd-new-postfix

Then this

     sudo apt-get install amavisd-new-postfix

That will un and reinstall the package

then continure about your work

In addition to my previous reponse, the lib is not a manditory one (that I've noticed, but I could be wrong) so there may not be any need to reinstall it at all

Tried to download clamav and ended with 'error code 1'.

I'm stuck and don't know how to proceed. (As well, I've had and still having problems with dos required password ... it's hit and miss most of the time).

Can you help?

Thanks in advance.
