Apport attachments to existing bugs

Asked by Brad Johnson

When a user attempts to file a bug report using the applications "Report a Problem" option and the user finds an existing bug report for the same problem and selects the "Yes, this is the bug I'm trying to report" option, shouldn't that users apport attachments be attached to the existing bug report to supplement that report?

If this does happen it is not evident via the Launchpad interface for a user viewing existing bugs.

An example would be Bug #441362. I used apport to start a bug report but found this bug already existed so I chose it. After being redirected to this bug I find that the creator did not use apport to file his bug and therefore has no attachments. A developer asked for the attachments but the user was unable to provide them. My apport attachments should have been automatically attached to supplement the existing bug, IMHO.

Hi Brad.

The apport/launchpad workflow is largely driven by Ubuntu developer needs. I do think that attachments are needed, but I think Ubuntu developers are the only people who can speak with authority.

Curtis,
I agree that the Ubuntu developers should weigh in on such a decision before any changes are made. The question then becomes, does Launchpad support such an action? Apport submits bugs the same way each time so it would require Launchpad to process the attachments for an existing bug rather than discarding them as it does currently.

Can you help with this problem?
