Sound absence again. Even after alsa update.....

Asked by Ryan Czar

Ok so I am still having sound issues. I had already been through this before and all of your steps got sound back on this computer. For a few days I had sound like normal. Then one day I turned this computer on and there is no sound. Easier than explaining what all has been done already here is the link to my previously "answered" question.

I even had re-opened it but I have not had a response since then. Thanks if you can help, I sure would appreciate it!

I don't see the codec listed. To get this info please run the following in a terminal:
$ cat /proc/asound/card*/codec* | grep Codec

Looking at the entry you mentioned, can you verify - if you run 'lspci -nnk' in a terminal you should see this sound card:
Multimedia audio controller [0401]: Cirrus Logic CS 4614/22/24/30 [CrystalClear SoundFusion Audio Accelerator] [1013:6003] (rev 01)

Please include the indented lines underneath which include the modules loaded for that card.

Also please take a look and update the following wiki page no matter the end result of your experience. Thank you.

Please first enable the universe repository:

Open System → Administration → Software sources → [ Tab Ubuntu software ]
enable "Community Maintained open source software (universe)"
Close and confirm the repository reload.

Then open a Terminal from the menu Applications → Accessories → Terminal and type:

sudo aptitude update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo aptitude install gnome-alsamixer

give your user password when requested, you don't see nothing when you type it, then press enter.

Then try to run gnome-alsamixer from menu Applications→Sound & Video GNOME Alsa Mixer

unmute and raise to a non zero values and retry.

if this doesn't solve

Please send us the full terminal output from step 3 and step 4 from this procedure:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshootingProcedure

Please also specify the exact model and make of your PC (if possible) on this thread
