alsa master channel gets muted using firefox

Asked by keratos

hi

I'm running ubuntu with ROX desktop and having a strange sound issue.

When I boot up I can play audio media or movies using xine (or any other player) with no trouble.

When I open firefox and then click on a RealPlayer stream, the RealPlayer client correctly starts and opens the stream, however, there is no sound.

If open a console and run alsamixer then I note the master channel has been muted. If I unmute, close the RealPlayer client window and reclick the stream , it all works.

Any ideas whats going wrong?

Please try this workaround procedure:

Run the following commands:

sudo aptitude update
sudo aptitude install alsa-oss

Then change the "firefox.desktop Icon settings konsole command" from

firefox %u

to

aoss firefox %u

Or run firefox using this command:

aoss firefox

INEFFECTUAL !

same !

had to close realplayer, then firefox, run alsamixer and unmute master channel increasing volume, open firefox and click on the realplayer stream. then, it worked.

So, no sorry, that solution didnt fix the issue.

thanks anyway
