jaunty
I guess you know what that means. I just burnt an Ubuntu cd. This evening I'm going to install a fresh copy from scratch and just see if that works for the sound as well. As I said in my question this is installed through wubi installer.

Hi :)
Yes, the normal Dual-boot method is often a lot better although many stick with the Wubi for years
https:/
Here's a guide for the Wubi
https:/
It's usually best to try out the LiveCd of a new Cd and anytime you are thinking of installing Ubuntu to a different machine. it's quite a good demo although it is a little slower than a hard-drive install
https:/
Even if the LiveCd works well it's still wise to check the md5sum to make sure the Cd is going to work properly
https:/
Good luck and regards from
Tom :)

Make sure you md5 check the iso before burning to ensure the data is ok.

Thanks for all the answers. I reinstalled ubuntu using the iso image I downloaded. The sound still doesn't work. I'm going to buy some external speakers and see if that works.
My build in camera won't work neither. I may can configure that later. so be looking for me to ask about that later if I can't do it.

Hi :)
It's sometimes better to ask first and then if you do find the answer post a brief description of how you fixed it. If something doesn't work straight-away then other people will be looking in the "Solved Answers" database, you are unlikely to be the only one with any particular issue although it can happen. By asking the question and getting an answer (and marking it solved) you'll probably be helping others :)
https:/
Nicely done by the way :)))
Congrats and regards from
Tom :)

Ok after doing a lot of researching I seemed to had made it worse. Now when I open any audio application it saids there are no devices. Before everything seemed to be working. I followed the instructions from the following website http://
After I did that now it's worst. I don't even think it would work with ear phones. I was going to buy some this coming week. Is there any way I can just get some one to remotely connect to my computer and get everything working right?
thanks for your help.

Hi :)
I always start by quickly copying and pasting the command-line stuff that's in the Medibuntu page. It seems to fix so many problems and really brings things together well
https:/
there was a small update to it yesterday.
Then, especially after having done anything really tough and challenging i check the basics - speaker plug in the right socket, unplug and re-plug, that kind of thing. Oh and the standard mixer quite often gets stuck so i just wobble the levels a bit. At the moment for me it's the Pcm and "Front" channels that don't seem to notice what levels they are set to until i wobble them up/down. Then i recommend following the troubleshooting page
https:/
which includes posting a load of data collected from your command-line as a new question. You will soon see what i mean when you start working through it.
Also if you are going to test out installing and configuring something big then it might be worth adding a new partition and installing another ubuntu inside that. It only needs to be about 15Gb or so and uses the same swap partition. Just add this new install as part of a multi-boot. Then even if you completely break the system on your new install at least you have the previous one still working. The trick is trying to work out what you did right if you do get the other one behaving the way you want, but sometimes there are simple tricks to that anyway.
I hope something here helps!
Good luck and regards from
Tom :)

Tom, I appreciate all your help and suggestions but it still doesn't work and now it's showing no volum icon and when I put it on it said that there was a problem with the hard ware. I now need to get it back like it was and just use external speakers and keep my fingers crossed that they will work.

Here is the message....
The volume control did not find any elements and/or devices to control. This means either that you don't have the right GStreamer plugins installed, or that you don't have a sound card configured.
You can remove the volume control from the panel by right-clicking the speaker icon on the panel and selecting "Remove From Panel" from the menu.

To get the speaker icon back try right-click on the top taskbar/panel and look for a new speaker icon there.
Part of the troubleshooting guide is to post a new question with some info yu gain during the procedure?
https:/
Did you mnage to get the LiveCd working? When you boot up do you get a menu with only 1 option ofr booting into Ubuntu or do you get lots of options now?
Regards from

yeah I got the speaker icon but its muted and when I try to unmute it I got this message...
"No volume control GStreamer plugins and/or devices found."
and the other message that I posted earlier.
I tried open suse 11, ubuntu 9 and fedora Linux live cds and none of them had sound and suse and fedora couldn't configure the network (wireless card) Only ubuntu can see the wireless card.
Would external speakers work if I plugged them into the head phone jack turn up the volume?

Hi :)
I don't think that's a great idea and it's difficult for me to guess whether the sound is likely to be extremely loud or impossibly quiet.
Are you still using Ubuntu inside Windows, installed using the Wubi? Can you check the volume in Windows?
Regards from
Tom :)

No, I reinstalled ubuntu from the cd. I no longer have windows. I just downloaded and updated alsa and followed all the instructions. The sound is still not there not even any devices. I would like for someone to remotely connect to my computer and fix this if that is possible.

Hi :)
Please can you try working through this guide again.
https:/
Step 3 involves posting a new question in here which would help a lot because Launchpad doesn't have a way of dealing with older questions. Step 3 asks for certain information to be posted into the new question which should also help.
Apols and regards from
Tom :)
