Hopefully by re-posting it Mark or someone might pop in later and be able to help you with this. I would post the question in a few forums and see who gives the best answer first, then give all the rest a link to the right answer. It's a bit cheeky to do that 1st off but you have been very patient with us so it seems only fair to give yourself a good chance at getting the right answer eventually. If anyone wants details then just give them this url
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+question/80443
so they can see all the detail they need (hopefully)! :)

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)

I read the following page

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=205449

I followed all the steps and still my sound card (Ensoniq 5880B [AudioPCI]) is not recognized. So i think it's not an ''alsa'' problem. It's got to be something else. Help please!!!

Fantastic, nicely done :))

We have a problem at Launchpad because it does not have any system for coping with questions that are older than a day or 2. Since i couldn't help with the question all i could suggest was that you reposted the question so that your new one might get noticed and answered. I'm impressed that you have solved this on your own tho. Superb :)))

Congrats and regards from
Tom :)
