kubuntu14 64-bit ed. - sound suddenly not working

Internet (Youtube) and media players (Rhythmbox, VLC) not producing sound through speakers.

command line: systemsettings-multimedia-Audio&VideoSettings_test - does WORK!

Tried various, other peoples', solutions from forums without success.

Then followed https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshootingProcedure;
  step 3
 (MY) ALSA information is located at
 http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=4e0a9d2b476b812267a0960a2ee9b5f30b5a9deb

After step 4 finished - sound was back!

After completing step 4 of the ubuntu troubleshooting procedure sound is back!
Problem solved.!

Working thru' https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshootingProcedure solved the problem.
 Sound came back after step 4.

Your Terminal output in http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=4e0a9d2b476b812267a0960a2ee9b5f30b5a9deb

shows that the Master channel and other channels in alsamixer were simply muted.... Volume was at 100%, but channel was set to "mute" You can use the M key in alsamixer to unmute muted channels.

Thanks Mark,

I had previously changed all "MM" to "00" in alsamixer without solving the
problem.
