No sound - Ubuntu 12.04.4LTS

Asked by Wayne R. Knight

I have had full sound control up until today. This evening, my the webcam microphone was dead. When I tried to change the settings in pulseaudio volume control, the speaker output died. There is audio output from the headphones when I plug them into the front panel. There are no muted settings in alsamixer. I tested the system under windows and all hardware works perfectly.

Try:

killall pulseaudio; rm -r ~/.config/pulse* ~/.pulse*

Wait ten seconds and then try some sound stuff. Is it ok?

Please mark the question as solved. Replying to the automated email doesn't do this

Thanks

However, soft rebooting failed to correct the problem. It was necessary to power off completely, then reboot.
