Ubuntu 12.04 no sound

Asked by clombard

No sound on dual boot insatllation. 12.04 NO SOUND: WinXP-sound works fine (same machine).
12.10 seems like the least powerful O/S since I have been using Ubuntu (over 5 years).
Any multiple request seems to get the "gray screen".
No power. eg: attached usb HD to move a 6.2GB file..."1hour and 50min"
Re-booted to WinXP attached the same usb HD and moved the same
6.2GB file..."5 mins".
Can someone please let me know how I can sound.......?
thanks.

It's pre-release, it's not even in Beta1. What did you expect? It is not ready and not stable in any way....

I suggest you report a bug

Try:

killall pulseaudio; rm -r ~/.pulse*

Issued the above command and sound worked again.
Then went to System Settings->Sound and tried the left and right
speaker test. No sound on test.
Went back to the browser and NO sound.
Issued the above command and sound worked again.
Some glitch between the sound and System Settings...?
I will not try the sound test again.
thanks...

I suggest you report a bug. Quantal is not ready and you will get issues like this upto and even a few weeks after release. If you need an OS that WORKS, use Precise. If you want a half finished OS with bugs galore and issues and even possible data loss but want to report bugs to get the OS ready for release in October then use Quantal.
