If you run the command AS I GAVE IT rather than cutting it up. It WILL work. If you start messing with given commands then you may damage your OS. Copy the command as ONE line and paste it to terminal. It will make a URL after you select to upload to the server. What is the URL?

Driver version: 1.0.23
Library version: 1.0.24.1
Utilities version: 1.0.24.2

You may want to upgrade your driver version to 1.0.24 to match the lib and utils versions

Ok. I found the website:

http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Download

I downloaded the version 1.0.24

I am trying to install it following the steps. However there is one :the
step 7 (to config the kernel module) that I am having a problem. The step 8
ask to run the *modprobe snd-xxxx* , but there is no modprobe here to run!

thanks

let me be clearer,

It says:

Run 'modprobe snd-xxxx' where xxxx is the name of your card.
   Note: All ALSA ISA drivers support ISA PnP natively, so you don't need
         isapnptools any more. Don't use both together. It will
         conflict. For disabling the ALSA ISA PnP support, specify
         --with-isapnp=no configure switch.

but I don`t know the name of my card. Thanks.

may help compile it, obviously change the version numbers.

I also found this:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-audio-dev/ppa; sudo apt-get update;sudo apt-get dist-upgrade; sudo apt-get install linux-sound-base alsa-base alsa-utils gdm ubuntu-desktop linux-image-`uname -r` linux-alsa-driver-modules-$(uname -r) libasound2; sudo apt-get -y --reinstall install linux-sound-base alsa-base alsa-utils gdm ubuntu-desktop linux-image-`uname -r` linux-alsa-driver-modules-$(uname -r) libasound2; killall pulseaudio; rm -r ~/.pulse*

Hello ,

I started having again the same problem that I had before,

-> I have a dell inspiron 14z , I am using the ubuntu 11.04. When I play a
music for instance I can hear it through the internal speakers and
headphones, but I cannot hear it only through the headphones. I saw that
many people had the same problem as me..how can I solve the problem?

*solution:* sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-audio-dev/ppa; sudo apt-get
update;sudo apt-get dist-upgrade; sudo apt-get install linux-sound-base
alsa-base alsa-utils gdm ubuntu-desktop linux-image-`uname -r` linux-
alsa-driver-modules-$(uname -r) libasound2; sudo apt-get -y --reinstall
install linux-sound-base alsa-base alsa-utils gdm ubuntu-desktop linux-
image-`uname -r` linux-alsa-driver-modules-$(
uname -r) libasound2;
killall pulseaudio; rm -r ~/.pulse*

I tried to do the same procedure you advised to do, and solve before but
this time is not working and the problem persists.

Thank you very much for your attention and have a good weekend.
