no sound output on HP Compaq DC7100 in Ubuntu 14.04

Hi alll

i have installed clean a copy of Ubuntu 14.04... all seems well but no matter what I try i can't get sound to come out of the inbuilt speaker. Only the headphone jack.
This is a HP compaq DC7100
the sound goes from say, youtube through to apps (with moving graph) to jack but will not switch to the speaker, which cannot be found anywhere. Missing from top right of screen (3 outputs not 5) also missing from ALSAMIXER IN APPS and Ternimal.

add:

options snd-hda-intel model=basic

To:

/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

And reboot to test.
