I cannot hear sound through the speakers or the headphones. I followed the troubleshooting steps found here:

I ran through them twice to be sure that I did not overlook anything the first time. This is a brand new install and not an upgrade of a previous Ubuntu release. I am an Ubuntu newbie. its great but I really want to get the sounds working. If there is any additional information you need please let me know.

I believe that the alsa-base.conf file should contain the following model option for the HP Compaq DC7600: basic

So the last part of the /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf file should look like this:

# Keep snd-pcsp from being loaded as first soundcard
options snd-pcsp index=-2
alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
alias sound-slot-0 snd-hda-intel
options snd-hda-intel model=basic
options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=1

So make sure to REMOVE the following line from the /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf file:

options snd-hda-intel model=hp-dc7600

REPLACE it with the following line:

options snd-hda-intel model=basic

Then reboot and retest sound via speakers and headphones.

please help i can hear sound in my headphone not in my dellstudio1450 laptop....
