Please execute step 2, then send us the full terminal output from step 3 and step 4 from this procedure:

On the top menu bar, click on System>Preferences>Sound. First of all, on the top of the window, see if the Mute option isn't checked. If it is, uncheck it. If it doesn't works, click on the Hardware tab. In the bottom of the window, check that Analog Stereo Duplex is selected. In case you don't have a microphone, select Analog Stereo Output as profile. Then, click Test Speakers and test that everything is working OK. After that, click close.

Please copy-paste the following command into the Terminal:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install gnome-alsamixer

Then use gnome-alsamixer to UNMUTE and INCREASE volume on the following mixer channels.

Simple mixer control 'Master Mono',0
Simple mixer control 'Headphone Jack Sense',0
Simple mixer control 'Mix',0
Simple mixer control 'Mix Mono',0

You will probably need to turn OFF the following channel in gnome-alsamixer:

Simple mixer control 'External Amplifier',0

Then retest sound output using both headphones and speakers.

I am sorry. Not experienced in understanding this information. Is there a part of this response that I should copy and paste into my terminal and run? Or, is one of these web addresses holding the info that I need to run? It needs to be spelled out for me as I am unfamiliar with these procedures. Please continue to help me out.  Thanks

Sound was not muted and volume was turned up. I have no built in mike that I am aware of but do have a plug in to add external mike so I tried both and tested with no success. Thanks for trying.

José Antonio Rey proposed the following answer:
On the top menu bar, click on System>Preferences>Sound. First of all, on
the top of the window, see if the Mute option isn't checked. If it is,
uncheck it. If it doesn't works, click on the Hardware tab. In the
bottom of the window, check that Analog Stereo Duplex is selected. In
case you don't have a microphone, select Analog Stereo Output as
profile. Then, click Test Speakers and test that everything is working
OK. After that, click close.

Now, all I have to do is mark my question as "Resolved"
