Using menu editor in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS

I am attempting to set up Ubuntu LTS 10.04 for my students. I have formed a group called student and intend that all of my students will be members of it.
I understand that a Menu Editor exists which I can use to create a modified student menu and then use a so called Profile Manager to associate the menu with the aforementioned group of users.
Is this correct and if so I don't seem to have a Menu Editor or a Profile Manager.
Can anyone advise me how I can obtain them and if they can be used with LTS 10.04.
