Ubuntu 11.10 freezing problems

Asked by yz

At the beginning, I had huge heating problems.. My computer would get up to 98 C just by browsing the web.. I followed this turtorial, kinda helped:
http://www.techytalk.info/linux-kernel-2-6-38-2-6-39-power-regression-workaround/

I synced cm7 source.. While syncing, sometimes it stopped, and the screen totally froze.. I tried the ctrl + sys rq + R E I S U B, but it wouldn't help.. I had to hard restart.

Now I'm trying to install ADB. It starts downloading, but when it gets to the unzipping part, my PC heats up, and again, everything freezez. I can't finish installing adb.

My pc is a hp pavilion dv5 laptop with 1.9 GHZ dual core processor and 3 GB ram. I'm running Ubuntu 11.10 via WUBI.

I would really appreciate an answer.
Thanks.

@actionparshnip

I am very new to Linux/ubuntu.. Could you specify your question please ?
What is bios, how can I find out if I have latest version, and you think the heating and freezing problems are caused by bios ?

Thanks for your answer, I appreciate it
