Ubuntu 11.10 heating problem

Asked by yz

Currently running ubuntu 11.10

Huge heating problem.. Reaches 96 C just by browsing the web.. Read that it's a kernel issue? IF so, will it get fixed?

I followed this tutorial:n
http://www.techytalk.info/linux-kernel-2-6-38-2-6-39-power-regression-workaround/
and I installed jupiter (powersave mode)

It helped a bit, but not that much.

Are there any other workarounds? If so, I would appreciate an answer.

Thanks.

Have you tried precise live CD?

What is the make and model of the system?

Do you have the latest BIOS?

Actually it's claimed fixed.
Bug #760131

Maybe first investigate if the kernel is the culprit or rather some other application (maybe acpi).

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures#Hardware

In case test if the issue disappears with mainline kernel (latest for Oneiric is v3.2-rc4-oneiric).
