> Freezes Regularly
Needs clarification.
Due to lack of information adding a recent question about 'freezing'.

98715 says that mouse continues,
In my case the whole screen freezes and only Karmic,
On the Other Hand under SUN Vbox it does not freeze!

Sun VBox "shows" to guest karmic a virtual graphic card which is not the real one.
So problem could lie in bugged support of this graphic card.
Perhaps Karmic doesn't use the same version of graphical packages than other distributions.
Can you provide the model of your graphic card ?
Karmic freeze after the panel which ask username/login or before ?

From my part my computer doesn't freeze under Karmic...but under Vista!

Do Ctrl+Alt+F6.
Computer should switch from X11 (graphic mode) to a terminal.
Ctrl+Alt+F7 go back to X11.

If it works, problem lies in management of graphic card.

This seems to work on Linuxmint 8.10

Linuxmint is based on Ubuntu, but with more proprietary drivers.
And we talk of version 9.10 of Ubuntu and 8.10 of Linuxmint.
On linuxmint website, I see version 8 of Linuxmint is based on Karmic (I see no version 8.10).

As it works with Linuxmint 8.10, you have to check with Ubuntu 9.10
If Ubuntu 9.10 fails on Ctrl+Alt+F6, you have to check graphic card driver:
     System->Administration->Device Driver
For example, on my computer under Ubuntu, I replaced free driver by NVidia driver.
What is the model of your graphic card ?

Delance thanks for your detailed answer
a) This is LinuxMint 6 based on Ubuntu 8.10.
b) I have the Karmic CD. and Ubuntu 9.04 only Karmic Freezes.

You can have a look at "https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/Freeze".
I will read it later.
In system administration -> hardware drivers, can you get information about driver ?
Can you type "sudo lshw -C video" in a terminal ?

System->Preference->"Look" (sorry, I have french menu)
Tabs "Visual effects" : choose "nothing". It should disable compiz, which is cited in the two first bugs of Sam.
And try again...

Thanks Delance Canceling Visual effects seems to have worked,
Hope that Next Version of Ubuntu will do it Automatically.
