Sound Input

I installed Ubuntu on acer Aspire series I have sound output I can hear all paybacks but I can not record or talk on Skype or sip. any one has any idea? please Help.

Hello,

to use your Mike or record anything you must select the tracks like this way:

gnome-panel ->upper right corner ->right click on the speaker icon -> Ctrl+O (open volume control) ->Menu item Edit
-> Preferences and then select the tracks Microphone and line-in. Then open the Notepad Recorder and increase Line-in.

Dear Mathias,
i did that when i increase the volume i can hear my voice but i did not fined notepad i found sound recorder instead so i found that the input filed is empty in sound recorder and it is unselectable and i tried to recorded but is did not recorded it shows that it is recording but after i stopped it it dos not save any thing so i tried to select save it give me this message (Could not save the file "Invalid parameters").
Please advice.

it is Sound Recorder 2.18.0 that comes with Ubuntu and also Skype callers can not hear me but i can hear them.

Hello,

i just played a little bit with sound recorder an get the same probs. That seems to be a problem with gstreamer - i got a gstreamer-critical error.

Hello,

please try the following:

open gnome-sound-recorder and record something but after pushing the stop button choose the menu item File ->save as

this should work please write your result work, or work not, can hear your recording?

Thank you very much for your help i discovered what is the problem it was the mic input plug the Acer Aspire series has 2 plugs one in the front and one at the back in windows the one in front works fine so when i installed ubuntu i was still using the one in front and did not work so now i tried the one in the back and it worked fine with ubuntu.

I hope I can reactivate this thread...
I have exactly the same problems as described above, except for that it's not a plug issue. The mic I plug in doesn't work but then the internal built-in one doesn't work either. And I can't speak on skype. Everything was working until I downloaded a whole bunch of automatic upgrades (I can't recall which ones, there was a whole list). If anyone could help, that'd be great. Thanks.

Hi,

I have an HCL laptop. I am having problem with my sound input. I am unable to use Skype. I recorded my voice using Sound Recorder, but I don't hear my voice. Please help. What should I do?
