internet connection on fiesty

Asked by Swingingdoor

I upgraded my ubuntu 6.01 to 7.04, but now I cannot connect to the internet. I have checked all the basic settings and it appears that everything is in order. I i am hard wired to a high speed satelite connection (Hughes) via a belkin router. Any Suggestions to how I can get back online?

It seems to be a modem support issue. How can I revert back to 6.01 ubuntu?

Hi Other than a reinstall I do notknow of any way of
reverting

My experiance is that 6.01 is far more stable than
7.04
This is personal experiance on my Assus Laptop.

I have tried both versions and reverted to 6.01, by
using a Cd iso of gparted, booting to the cd, deleting
my Linux partiton, and resizing my windows partion to
take up the free space.
I then used igt to rewrite the MBR, and after booting
to xp to initilze everything, reinstalled 6.06

I have bi-passed the winmodem asm I find the Linuxant
drivers inadequate, here in New Zealand.
They suffer from modulation issues and drop out every
few minuets or so.

I purchased a serial to usb conector, and usning
information from the Ubuntu forums, n ow have moy old
56k modem working flawlessly.

As I travel extensivly, and ADSL is not avialble
country wide I need the 56k modem to acess my email
etc.

I have managed to get my modem working Under Fiesty on
my desktop, using gnome-ppp as a dialer. (Which is in
the repositories)
I am also using gnome as dialer on my laptop, but had
to configure it to /Dev/ttyUSB0

working like a charm

Hoep this helps
