windows media player alternative?

I am looking for an alternative to windows media player.. I need to rip and burn DVD's. I have tried some of the softwares on my ubuntu karmic machine but my system wont let me eject the disc and then the system crashes.. ideas??

Could you list the softwares you already tried, so that people can either help you use them, or propose others ?
By the way, to eject a disc on Linux, you should right-click on the disk's icon and select "eject"

when I right click there is no "eject" option.

You go to Computer -> CD Drive and then choose the drive and right click
-> Eject
