Asked by djfridai

I have ubuntu 9.1 and i want to install Windows Xp on the same hardrive. Like having 2 OS's on the 1 harddrive. I tried installing Windows Xp home but when i boot from the boot cd-rom disk it runs setup but then says after a little loading "The File pci.sys is corrupted" and then I press any key to continue and then it says "SEtup Failed press any key to continue" so then I cant't install Windows Xp.

Alright, in this case I would recommend looking up the Ubuntu wiki for something called dual-booting, its the process that allows you to have two Operating Systems in one computer. There's no better source than the ubuntu wiki to help you out on this topic.

Alright so here's what I'll tell you: don't use XP its really crappy. My first
time with Ubuntu was bad because I didn't know what to do, but don't loose
hope, it will come to eventually, Ubuntu is working very hard to make it
available to people and as easy as possible. On ubuntu.com get the desktop
edition, it should say something like Ubuntu desktop (32-bit). Download that,
burn it to a disk, put in the disk and then restart. Check out this video [1],
youtube is always a great help :) If you still have problems, feel free to
email me. If this solves your problem mark it solved also :)

Sorry for not focusing on your orinigal questions, that problem is with the
CD, you might have to get a new CD, Ubuntu doesn't have anything to do with XP
not starting the setup. If the installation disk was working fine, you should
get a screen saying if you want to install XP, then it takes you to remove all
your partitions, format the new free space, and install XP on your machine.

Again I apologize for not being clear enough: You can't install from a corrupt
CD, you need a new CD to be able to complete the setup successfully. The setup
says:

" The File pci.sys is corrupted, press anykey to continue" and then it says
"Setup failed press any key to restart computer"

because the XP install CD isn't working
