The CD you have is most likely a windows driver CD. So this is of no use to you in Linux.

What are you trying to achieve with the CD? If it is initial setup which cannot be done via some web interface, I suggest you use the CD in a Windows system.

So,
maybe you should consider just using the Windows to setup the router.
I don't have a clue, why you expect windows autorun.inf = autoplay mechanism to be supported on Linux - what for?

Kris.

Hi again,
thanks for your help.My linux computer is already linked to a linksys
wireless router but the router is old and dodgy and we have bought a
newer model WRT160NL .I was wondering could we connect manually to the
new router without using the CD? On the box of the linksys it says
powered by linux and a mac symbol .

thanks
John

Hi john,

The CD that comes with Linksys routers doesn't actually contain any drivers. Usually it has a Windows/Mac program to help you set up your router for the first time. If you have a Windows PC, the best way would be to use the CD on it to do the initial setup and then simply connect to your new wireless network on Ubuntu as you normally would.

As for the box saying that it's powered by Linux, I believe that it's directly referring to the router itself (the router runs some form of Linux).

I hope this helps,
-Mike
