b43-phy0 warning: You must go to http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/b43#devicefirmware and download the latest firmware (version 4) -> BCM4318 [AirForce One 54g] 802.11g Wireless LAN Controller [14e4:4318] (rev 02) - wlan0 No scan results - cannot connect to wireless router using acer aspire 3002wlmi in Ubuntu 9.04
I just installed ubuntu9.04 on my acer aspire 3002wlmi. I can't get my wifi working.
It doesn't show any wireless connections even though the network is up and running (I'm sure because I'm typing this message on a different computer).
Does anybody know how to get this working?

Mark,
Your answer says: 'The hardware RF-kill button still turns the radio physically off. Press the button to turn it on'.
If this is the switch on the front side of the laptop then it's on because the light in it is burning.
What I'll do is the following: I've installed a different driver for the wifi part but I don't know how I've done this (sounds strange but is true). So I'll re-install ubuntu 9.04 to be sure that you and I are talking the same language.
After re-installing ubuntu I'll re-send you the outcome of:
sudo lshw -C network; sudo iwlist scanning; cat /etc/network/
Lets start from there on to be sure that we'll get the problem solved.

Hi Eugene,
That's not what I wrote. I edited the title/subject line of this incident report to help clarify the situation.
The output ''The hardware RF-kill button still turns the radio physically off. Press the button to turn it on'
was just part of the ubuntu logs that you sent me. Your Ubuntu installation sent that debugging output, not me.
After editing the subject/title, I sent you a possible solution, which is described here:

Please try upgrading the b43 device firmware for your BCM4318 broadcom chip using these instructions:
http://
Then reboot and retest wireless.
If that does not help, then try installing wicd to replace Network Manager by using the following commands:
sudo aptitude update
sudo aptitude install wicd
After installing wicd, reboot and retest wireless

You can also try the old BCM4318 wireless installation procedure here:
http://
Keep in mind that the file /etc/modprobe.

Yet another alternative is this procedure:
https:/
Search for the word "Networking" on that website for instructions.
Make SURE to call the created file /etc/modprobe.
Or else Ubuntu 9.04 will ignore it (I think)
Hopefully one of the procedures above will help you out ;-)
I think you will have the highest chance of success with this last suggestion....
