My new Canon TS3350 printer wont print

Asked by Geoff Johnson

Third time lucky: I have given up on HP printers, but have bought a Canon Pixma TS3350 which is (almost) new. I am assured that it will connect via a USB cable, of which I have two.
I unpacked, allowed it to acclimatize for a couple of hours, then, following the instructions, installed the ink cartridges. I then connected via the USB cable. I tested the printer by putting a document under the scanner lid, and pressing the black and colour buttons. It scanned, and printed. So far, so fine. On my computer, it is recognized, when I try to scan from the computer, it finds the scanner, but then says "unable to connect".
I have set it up as a printer, but when I try to print, nothing whatsoever happens. I look at the Canon online manuals, which recognize that I have Linux 64-bit. I try to get support manuals and drivers to download, but just get odd folders and text files appearing.
It seems as if the printer is working (it's under two years old) but the connection/driver whatever needs something changing.
I have tried several reboots, and power-cycles of the whole ensemble, no better.
I have a green light by the on/off switch, and a yellow light by the "B" on the printer, but the manuals do not tell me what this yellow light or "B" means.
I have been trying to get a printer working properly since before last christmas, have a stack of HPs in my office, and hoped that this Canon TS3350 would be better. The printer end of the cable seems a much more positive connect in this printer than the HPs.
Are there any special drivers for this printer? HPLIP and HPdrs did nothing with the other printers.
I am sure this is only a setup glitch, but cannot find out where.
Any suggestions?

I think you should try installing the Canon Linux drivers from the official Canon website and make sure you download the correct 64-bit version. If you still face issues, consider using a tool like "ScanGear MP" for scanning and "CUPS" for printing setup. The yellow light by the "B" might indicate a specific error, so refer to the manual. Hope this will help :)

I have just tried your link, thank you for it.
I find a page I have seen several times, but this time it says Drivers (0) and then the operating system line below is blank. When I have seen the page before, it detects Linux 64-bit.Whatever I download I look at some obscure files, with a tab saying "Extract" at the top left.  This does nothing at all.The printer, via activities, says "connected to localhost" and is recognized, but not contactable, which is confusing -the machine sees it, identifies it, but cannot connect to it.I have tried removing and adding printers, with intermittant reboots and power cycles (this seemed to work with one ofthe earlier HP printers - eventually - say, about three reboots, but does not work with this newer Canon TS3350)I am sure there is a setting somewhere that will make the difference.I will try to re-install the CUPS system, and run the printer via that.On the printers page (via activities) I seem to get two or three entries after doing "Add Printer".I will try wiping it out and starting over again.Any other suggestions are very welcome! Many thanks,  Geoff. Johnson.

You have to download the two items that have "(debian Packagearchive)" in their name, and for each of them:
untar the package file and run the install.sh script.

Thanks for your reply, but where do I find the "Debian Packagearchive" and the "install.sh" script?
Are they in Linux Ubuntu software store, or in the Canon website?
I am so sure that this printer will work, it's all some obscure setting detail, so thanks again for your help.
