Asked by Charlie_Smotherman

I am working on updating a package, (Bug #389654). This package is not in Debian so how would I go about getting the translations updated for this package?

Thanks

Hi :)

I have posted a message to the Ubuntu Translators list. Just to keep you in the loop (as you seem to be the main contact point for driving this forwards) here's a copy of what i wrote ...

Hi again

Does anyone know if the lyricue people have only signed up for a limited translations service? If so how do they sign up for the full range normally offered?
https://translations.launchpad.net/lyricue

Preferably an answer or even hints to the bug and Answers threads at
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lyricue/+bug/389654
or
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/80449
might help although i might be able to relay answers back to them from this mailing list. I think this is the projects up-stream website?
http://www.lyricue.org/developers

Sorry, i'm still a bit unsure what people mean by upstream but there's the projects website anyway ;)
Thanks all and regards from

Don't expect any swift answers though because several quite huge projects and a few other exciting scheduled things have just happened (or have started happening in the last few days) in the translators group.

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)

Of course you should be able to use this package yourself even if it isn't in the standard repositories yet. You can install tarballs or ".deb" packages from anywhere quite easily
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/InstallingSoftware

If it's written for a different family of linux then it might need a bit of converting but there are tools to make that easier. Someone was asking about converting a program from the RedHat family to Debian family to use in Ubuntu and someone mentioned about using "alien" or something to do the conversion.

While it is quite nice if you can help shift things along for the whole community it is well worth looking out for your own needs first - usually that helps the wider community anyway ;)

Thanks, good luck and regards from
Tom :)
