computer doesnt see my integral card reader
Hi i am new to linux running on ubuntu 9.04 i think its great, my one big problem at the moment is my integral card reader which my computer does not seem to know is there, all ideas appreciated

ok can you please have the device empty, if there was a card in there then take it out and wait 10 seconds
Push in a card into the reader then run this command and provide the output:
dmesg | tail; sudo fdisk -l; mount

Hi thanks for replying however i cant work out how to type in the vertical line after dmesg there are 3 symbols on that key and i can only get the other 2 to work
i know its probably simple but ive tried all combinations i can think of

You don't need to type it, you can paste to the terminal, thats why i gave you the whole command

when you type passwords, there is no screen feedack to hide the password length. Type your password and it will work.
This is because the partition is being mounted which cannot be done by users.

if it doesnt show up in fdisk then the partition isnt active. You may have to read through the entirety of:
dmesg | less
to see whats going on. You may also need to disable acpi or dma to get the device activated in the OS.

Hi back again
no luck before decided to use blue tooth but would really like to use reader
followed all previous steps this is what i got repeating after typing in dsmeg

waiting for device to settle before scanning
doesnt sound good, i suggest you put it in another system and fsck or chkdsk the partition to make sure it is healthy
