failed to fetch

Asked by tls

Trying to download packages from the synaptic package manager. A month or so ago, I downloaded some firewall software that appears to have thrown something off in the system. Even though I removed it, and reinstalled the operating system more than once, I'm still having problems downloading from the synaptic package manager. I keep getting the same message. "W: Failed to fetch http://archive.unbuntu.com/unbuntu/pool/universe/libf/libfreebob0_1.0.3+svn443-2_i386.deb 404 Not Found [IP:91.189.88.40 80]" or something to that affect. I had downloaded Audacity 1.3.3-1ubuntu0.1 but once I had to reinstall my operating system, it won't let me reinstall the software. At this point I'm very limited as to what I'm able to download from the synaptic package manager, the main software that I need, I can no longer download.

its UBUNTU not UNBUNTU and is pronounced OO-BOON-TOO

If the file is anywhere then it will be in:

http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/libf/libfreebob/

i suggest you run:

sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get upgrade

Then try again. It is very rare in ubuntu to actually download apps and 99% of the time you will use repositorys (via apt-get or synaptic)

Is this how you installed Audacity?

I ran audacity through the synaptic package manager.  I will do the run you suggested and get back to you on how things went.  Thank you so much for offering your assistance!

Thanks, Treanetta

I did the sudo apt-get update, then I remembered, I tried this already. I also did the sudo apt-get upgrade but it came back w/0 results. When I go back into synaptic package manager, I'm still getting the same error message. I'm at a lost.....

Can you give the exact error you are getting. If it does indeed say 'unbuntu' then whever you have copied the repo from is wrong or you have mistyped it.

Thanks
