Firefox involuntarily re-installed.

I am running Jaunty in amd64.

This morning I turned on my computer and used the firefox 3.0.11 web browser. Everything was normal. I closed the browser and left the computer for about one hour. When I returned to the computer and opened the browser, up popped a box asking me if I wanted to import bookmarks, settings, etc., from Mozilla Netscape, etc. I clicked cancel and up popped the firefox browser window to the default firefox home page. All my settings and bookmarks were gone. It was like a brand you installation of firefox had occured. What happened? There was noone else here and I did nothing to set off this kind of behaviour. Has anyone else experienced such behaviour? What could have happened?

I have tried to reconstruct in my mind what I had done during the morning session. I had used a program called FSlint to clean up some files. I think that I may have inadvertently wiped out the firefox settings when using some of the features of this program. I will be more careful with this program in the future.

Unless someone can think of something else, I'm closing this issue as solved.

Yes, me too open my second pare of eyes when some program says "Deleting files" or offers it. If I'm not sure I delay my response and think for a while.
