Did you MD5 check the ISO you downloaded?
Did you verify the CD once bootedto it?
Did you burn as slowly as you were allowed?
Have you used the memory tester (also on the cd) to test your ram is healthy?

Are you doing a clean install? In other words, did you wipe your HDD before you started? If you are upgrading from a previous version, sometimes file names change. If you have an older version on your HDD, your CD may be looking for a file who's name has been changed. Just a thought. Good luck.

Try disabling unnecesary hardware while you install (LAN, sound etc) also try some boot options to disable aacpi, apic and dma

I can confirm with the same hardware set and 8.04.2 x86_64 CD (alternate or server): won't install, even if using noacpi noapic nolapic irqpoll... just won't boot and end with "cannot find valid memory mapPANIC".

booting with x86 install CD is fine :(

Try a reburn s slowly as possible (4x if you can) or try a different brand of disks (I've had folks saying their systems installed ok with one brand but not another)

Wow, very weird. You could use what I call Win98 style:

create a partition on your drive some place ~1Gb will do nicely. Put the ISO on a usb stick and boot to a terminal of some sort (anything will do, even gentoo minimal), anyhoo. You can now copy the ISO to your harddrive and configure LILO (Grub doesnt support booting from ISO) to boot the file. and install from harddive to harddrive (much like people did installing Win98 so that the CD was never needed)

Bit of a long chore but its a good way to get an install as it removes the complication of disks.

Have you also used the memory checker to make sure your ram is healthy? You could boot to single user command line and fsck your drive too.

Update the BIOS to revision 1.1.4. Our R710's came with 1.0.4 and had the same problem. I created a bootable USB disk then copied the standalone EXE BIOS updater onto it. Rebooted with the USB disk in and ran the program. Ubuntu's LiveCD then started up just fine.
