The gzip binary is installed by default in Ubuntu. gzip is a command
line tool, it does not have a graphical interface (there are interfaces
that use it, such as the Gnome Archive Manager.

To see a little overview of how to use gzip, open the terminal through
Applications > Accessories > Terminal, then type in gzip --help. To use
the command you type gzip and the applicable options afterwards.

Can you help with this problem?
