Jaunty startup problem

Asked by Nay Myo Win

before i got this problem, from tasksel, i remove Print server. that is just i did.

then I locked screen. Screen saver was showing up and when I came back to use computer, it was not responding. so I think it is in standby mode and I press Power BUtton quickly once( that is what i normally do in windows to wakeup from standby mode). Actually i have not set standby option in Ubuntu Jaunty.
It shut down

by the way,My computer is TOshiba L300D notebook and dual boot with windows XP.

when i pressed power button again to boot up . After choosing Ubuntu from boot menu, I got that following error.

It seemed to be like disabling gdm, but it is not . The place i m stuck is like text editor , I can type any text. not in command mode.

what do I do?

screen shot is as follows.

Can you please close #71516 as it is a duplicate.

I suggest you boot to recovery mode console and this will allow you to run diagnostics, like fsck. I think turning your system off suddenly may have damaged files (ESC when grub shows up and select root console)

You can then umount your partitions and fsck them to make sure all is well, i recommend the -r option to repair.

BTW, Linux is not Windows so please can you research how to do things properly rather than applying Windows methods to a Linux based system, you will get less issues.

If the system doesnt respond I suggest you hit the restart x combo (alt + k + print screen in jaunty, ctrl + alt + backspace for all others)

Then you will need to boot to a livecd environment to re-enable them. Why did you comment them out? It makes no difference to the bootup and it avoids situations like this...
