how to set power on

Asked by Waluyo Adi Siswanto

My computer, Ubuntu 9.04 AMD64, always power on automatically at 8.00AM.
I don't know how to change? I could not find from System > Preference >Power Management.

Please any help?

Most probably is is set in BIOS. I don't know a way to use Ubuntu as an alarm=)
This can also be connected with some external device, e.g. some computers have "wake on LAN" feature which truns a computer on when LAN cable is plugged in.

And of course if you have a stationary computer you can completely turn it off with help of power button (usually on the back panel)

On booting your pc keep pressing DEL key you will then enter bios setup. Disable Auto switch on (probably in power mgnt.

Yes I have found in the bios setup WOL and power on alarm "enable". I switched them "disable" and it is ok now.
But I still have a question why last time power on every 8 AM. I don't install alarm clock ?
Before I switch the power on alarm to disable, the alarm time setting was at 0:0:0.

It is possible your BIOS was using GMT vs your local time. Depending on
your timezone 0 could have been 8am.
