desktop effects

Asked by saurabh

hi
today morning i tried to load(as root log) new desktop effects in my ubantu 8.10. they were first two from search menu in synaptic package manager(sorry i cant remember there names) when i gave search as desktop effects. it downloaded abt 12 files from those two packages. but finally when the whole process ended a windo with prompt 'double click to activate the package u want to load' or something that sort of wording was there. but as i done so the i was logout automatically. i re-log in but as desktop appeared it was not there just with colored stray marks in vertical rows.
so my qut is what this is happening ? what got wrong? whats d solution?
plz i expect it early as i can't access my desktop yet.

Hi saurabh,

Would you mind to explain, why you have to log in as a root not as a user?

I believe there was a problem downloading and installing the desktop effects. If it did not made any changes on your desktop then that's it.

Try re-installing the last stuff.

What do you want to do with the desktop effects? I recommend you install compizconfig-settings-manager.

Do this on the Teriminal:
sudo apt-get compizconfig-settings-manager
then type your password

Can you help with this problem?
